It is a sad day today as a dear friend passed away overnight. Bruce Allen and his beloved wife Fay who passed away a few years ago, introduced our family to the Bunya Mountains and we shared many years together photographing the mountain and the surrounding area. We walked over most of the trails, shared food and friendship and a common interest in photography where we first met at the Mount Gravatt Photographic Society. We began to stay at Munroes Camp in one cabin with Bernie Larsen after Ken Chapman built his house. Bruce and Fay we in the other cabin for a few years until their house “Colonial Cottage” was completed in Bunya Avenue. Although our paths did not cross every year once Bruce and Fay completed their house, we introduced other friends to the Bunya Mountains. At home in Brisbane Bruce and I spent many hours late into the night preparing entries and slide shows for the annual Mt Gravatt Show. Bruce worked all weekends, but we did manage some early morning photo shoots that included Bretts Wharf on the weekend before it was demolished. Bruce had a great big heart and was always willing to share his photographic knowledge and experience. Unfortunately that heart gave out last night and he has gone to rest eternally. Here is a photo of Jacks Shack from the Bunyas in front of the cabin that Bruce used to stay in – https://www.flickr.com/photos/100053981@N04/15930730170/in/album-72157647648699673/ . May this great man rest in peace with his beloved Fay.
